The flood started the renovation. Removing the platform transformed it.
After flooding affected the basement, the bathroom needed to be rebuilt. The homeowners used that necessary work as an opportunity to solve a long-standing layout problem: the raised platform that divided the room.
The project story
Rebuilding was only the beginning.
The goal was not simply to put the room back the way it was. Removing the full-width platform meant opening the concrete slab and reworking the plumbing before the new bathroom could take shape.
A platform that broke up the room.
Before restoration, the shower and rear portion of the bathroom sat on a raised platform. It made the compact basement room feel divided and limited the new layout.
The slab opened. The plumbing reworked.
Once the platform was removed, the concrete slab was opened so the drainage layout could be reworked for the rebuilt bathroom. This hidden stage made the lower, more practical floor plan possible.
The result
Lower, lighter and easier to use.
The former full-width platform is gone. The finished floor now runs continuously to a compact shower threshold, while large-format marble-look tile, black-framed glass, matte-black fixtures and a dark wood vanity give the room a clear, cohesive finish.
